This past Wednesday, we welcomed back our 8th graders from their amazing, 3-week trip to Israel. Our students lined the hallway for high fives and cheers as the world travelers filed into the Merkaz for the welcome back assembly. During the assembly, our 8th graders answered prepared questions about the trip submitted by our younger students. Questions ranged from “what did you miss most?” to “what foods did you eat?”, to “what was the meaningful part of the trip?” We then watched a beautiful slideshow illustrating all the wonderful places our 8th graders visited. I am sure each of our students are now greatly anticipating their chance to go to Israel with their class. Many thanks to Rabbi Ben, Rabbi Berger and Laurie Gross Kammer for serving as chaperones and keeping our students healthy and safe.

Even rain couldn’t dampen the Lag B’Omer spirit and the amazing “color war” activities at Schechter this past week. We had an incredible opening ceremony with each team designing a team banner and presenting their cheer. We had games, competitions, cheering, laughing and fun! Students wore their colors proudly throughout the day and our staff was just as engaged as our students. I hope students came home talking about the balloon breaking game, the corn hole activity, Jeopardy game, the Minute to Win It activities and the student/faculty volleyball game. It was quite a day, all organized by Sheri Gross and a committee of teachers. By the way, ask Sheri how many balloons she inflated for Thursday morning!

Don’t forget to visit the Schechter booth at IsraelFest! on Sunday at the JCC. We will be there from noon to 5pm and have give-a-ways for students and information about school. Send your friends to learn more about everything that Schechter has to offer. If you haven’t completed the enrollment process yet, please take care of that ASAP. We are making plans for the 2018-2019 school year and need accurate data.

Make sure you register for the 2nd Annual 5K Run Walk on Sunday morning, May 27. We have “colorized” the activity…we have prizes, refreshments, and a DJ. Don’t miss this great family event. Nothing brings a family closer than a fun 5K run in the morning! Check out the display in the entranceway…another creation by Tracy Bortz.
