As we approach the season of reflection this is an opportunity for all of us to think about how lucky we are at Gross Schechter.  Here we are in a beautiful school, with outstanding educators, and supportive parents; we have opportunities to participate in activities outside the classroom, field trips, overnight trips and even an amazing trip to Israel.  There are so many people in the world today that are suffering due to the horrendous natural disasters that have occurred in the past few weeks.  We need to take the time this weekend to reflect on what we do each day, and what we need to do during the next year to make a positive impact on our family, our school, our community, and the world.

Thank you to all our parents who participated in the conference nights this past week. I hope it gave you an opportunity to hear how well your child(ren) are progressing and in some cases, and areas that need improvement. We intentionally moved the conference dates earlier this year to coincide with progress reports instead of waiting until the end of the trimester. Middle School parents, please ask your child(re) about the new “Middot” program being introduced in the next few weeks. This is a great opportunity for students to set their own goals and have conversations about those goals with their Grade Level Advisor.

I want to invite all of our students and parents to the 2nd Annual Sukkot Sock Hop on Monday evening, October 9. Like last year, this is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together for an enjoyable evening of camaraderie, singing, activities, and refreshments.  Bring your entire family and enjoy the Schechter experience in our Sukkah.  If you haven’t seen our Middle School Soccer Team play, come by one afternoon when a game is scheduled and watch our Sharks in action.  They are having a very successful season.  The more than 20 young men and women are really coming together as a team and Coach Faulkner has them playing at a high level.  Bring your chair, grab a snack from our 8th-grade refreshment stand and cheer on our team.  The next Parent Association meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening, October 7th.  We invite all parents to get involved and join an active group of parents who are planning a number of exciting activities for the year.

Although this is only the start of October, we are already starting to think about the 2018-2019 school year.  If you know of families that are interested in a quality Jewish education for their children, please have them contact Janna Dorfman, Director of Admissions at jdorfman@grossschechter.org or 216-763-2600, ext. 417.  Our school has grown the past few years and we want to continue that trend.

On behalf of Gross Schechter Day School, may you have an easy fast, a wonderful weekend and Shabbat Shalom.
