Week in Review – May 24, 2019I hope everyone has a very enjoyable long weekend and you take the time to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day. Speaking of Memorial Day, Gross Schechter will be participating in the University Heights parade on Monday! We have a wonderful representation of Schechter families marching. Please join us by meeting at 10:00 am at 3602 Silsby Road on Monday morning. Kids can bring their bikes and scooters and we will have an awesome convertible for some lucky folks to ride in.
Wear Schechter gear and help us “represent”!
The 3rd Annual Run/Walk was a huge success! Over 250 runners (from age 0-85!) participated in the 1 mile Fun Run and 5K Run/Walk, and helped us raise over $40,000! We are grateful to Halli Kiwi and Tanya Bodzin, event co-chairs, and their committee for their hard work and commitment to this awesome event. If you haven’t see the photos yet, be sure to check out the album on Facebook!
I hope your children told you all about our Lag B’Omer celebration on Thursday. Sheri Gross and our staff did an amazing job coordinating our annual Color War competition. Great sportsmanship was on display as each team was responsible to create a banner for a competing team, teams participated in a number of exciting hands on activities and we even had competitive “Win It in a Minute” games at the end of the day. To conclude a great day of excitement, we brought back the Student/Faculty basketball game which included grades 5 – 8. Although the staff is aging a bit, they managed to squeak out the victory.
On Wednesday evening, we were treated to the beloved Kindergarten Alphabet Runway Show. Not only did our students perform like pros, they were able to share their personal learning portfolios with their parents. Orli Dugan and Rachel Gluck did a terrific job preparing the students for the performance as well as assisting the students with their compilation of work for their portfolios. Thanks also to our 7th graders for providing ice cream treat for the group as a fundraiser for their Israel trip.
On Thursday evening, representatives from Gross Schechter attended the NA’AMAT USA 2019 Golda Meir Award program where they honored Schechter parent Debbie Rothschild. As an added bonus to this evening, Gross Schechter 8th graders were participants in the ceremony. While in Israel, our students were able to visit NA’AMAT’s Technical High School in Hadera and deliver a donation to the school from NA’AMAT’s Cleveland Council. Thanks to Rabbi Berger, Rabbi Shlimovitz, Sheri Gross and Lauren Henkin for helping to coordinate this special visit by our students.
Today we kicked off “Kindness Week” at Gross Schechter. Laurie Gross Kammer, Sheri Gross and Stephanie Kundrach have organized a week of “kindness” activities for the staff and students. We started off the week with an activity called “Flooding the Halls with Wishes” Students and staff are being encouraged to write positive wishes to others. They are being hung throughout the hallways for everyone to read. This is a great way to end the year and set the table for next school year. When you come into the building check out what has already been written.
