Week in Review – May  17, 2019

We had another great week at Gross Schechter full of experiences, milestones and accomplishments!  As we approach the last few weeks of school, it is so rewarding to see the growth our students have made since the beginning of the school year.  They will have so much to reflect upon when they think about their 2018-2019 school year.

Our 8th graders are on the last leg of their amazing trip to Israel.  I hope you have been viewing the pictures and reading the blogs that have been posted on Facebook.  They have had the opportunity to climb Masada, float in the Dead Sea, walk Ben Yehuda Street, enjoy the Bahai Gardens in Haifa, experience Yom Ha’Zikaron and Yom Ha’Atzmaut, swim in the Mediterranean, dine with members of the Druze community, meet pen pals, stay with family and friends, ride camels, sleep in Bedouin tents, play in sand dunes and celebrate Shabbat in Tzfat.  And that’s only half the trip! We will welcome the group back to school on Tuesday morning with a Welcome Back Celebration. Special thanks go to Sheri Gross and Lauren Henkin for being fantastic chaperones and looking after our students for the past three weeks.

We are making the last preparations for the Schechter 5K Run/Walk on Sunday morning.  Walk-ins are welcome at 8am! Join 250 other family and friends for a morning of awesome Schechter ruach!

This past Monday, our Schechter Parents Association sponsored a wonderful Muffins with Mom.  It was a great morning of fun for our students and especially for all the moms that came to school.  Thanks to our SPA parents who organized this great event.

On Thursday, our 6th and 7th graders joined many other schools at the Lake County Captains baseball game.  Not only was it a beautiful day but the Captains won! Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to see a professional baseball game up close and personal at Classic Park.  Our math teachers made this a “math learning experience” for students by explaining, earned run averages, batting averages, winning percentages, etc. And, guess who caught a homerun ball in deep right field?

On Thursday morning, we hosted the 4th grade Tikkun Ceremony.  This a beautiful ceremony that highlights the students achievements, their memories of a Schechter education and their first real public Torah reading experience.  Oudi Singer, Donell Newman, Rabbi Foster and Rabbi Berger prepared students extremely well. Special notice goes to the Morry Malchmacher Torah Reading Fund for providing Tikkunim for every 4th grade student who attends Gross Schechter Day School.

Thank you for your continued support of Gross Schechter.  I hope to see you all on Sunday morning, Shabbat Shalom and have a wonderful weekend.
