Good afternoon Schechter families:

Believe it or not spring is just around the corner. As the weather hopefully takes a turn towards warmer sunnier days, Gross Schechter students will be very busy. Our Read for Life program will begin, our first graders will be receiving their Siddurim, our fourth graders will receive their Tikkunim, our fifth graders will be going to CVEEC (a retreat preparing them for middle school), seventh graders will be traveling to Washington, DC and our eighth graders will be off to Israel. Along the way lower school students will be taking CTP tests (grades 4-6) and our middle school students will be taking state end of course exams. And on May 21, we encourage everyone to participate in the first annual Schechter Run/Walk.

On a more somber note, we are all troubled by the rash of threats made to Jewish Community Centers and a few Day Schools throughout the country. I want all of our families to know that Gross Schechter is very aware of these issues and we have a strategic plan in place to deal with any emergency or threat. Our plan has been developed with the assistance of Homeland Security. We work very closely with the Pepper Pike Police Department and the Jewish Federation Security Department. We have regular surveillance of our campus by the police as well as the Federation. Appropriate staff have been instructed on the proper protocol in case we experience any issues or threats. Our administrative team members have attended a number of training sessions presented by Federation Security personnel and other local experts.

Although we are not expecting any issues at Gross Schechter, I want you to know that we are well prepared, we have a plan in place and we have the support of the local police and Federation Security. We will do everything possible to keep everyone safe in a calm, organized manner.

Thank you for your continued support of our great school. Our early re-enrollment numbers are very strong and we are very excited for the upcoming school year. We are about to begin preparing for the 2017-2018 school year and enrollment is crucial to making those plans. If you have not yet enrolled your child, I ask that you complete that process as soon as possible.

Have a great weekend, join us Saturday night at the bar at Felice Urban Cafe (12502 Larchmere Blvd) and Shabbat Shalom.
