Today we celebrated the 100th day of school.  Time flies when we are having fun! Our Kindergarten students continued the tradition of creating 100 day of school projects utilizing a variety of creative supplies.  The projects are all on display in the main hallway.

The recent weather has been unpredictable with warm temperatures one day and a cold snowy day the next which makes it prime season for fevers, colds and the flu.  Please help us keep our school community healthy by making sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather and if your child is sick, running a fever or has thrown up…please keep them home for an extra day.  This will help us keep absences and illness to a minimum.

Remember…school closing notification will be via our One Call Automated calling and text system.  If your home or mobile number has changed, please contact Molly in the main office.

Our Read for Life program is in full swing with DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time during the day and other exciting activities.  We had the annual book swap today, where students had the opportunity to choose a book from all the books that have been donated by our families.  It’s so wonderful to watch our students take the time to peruse all the donated books to select a new book to read. Our goal is for our students to read more than 2,000 books in the next couple of weeks.  The highlight of the program is the “Wheel of Wow”. Once students meet a reading goal, they have the opportunity to spin the wheel for a prize!

This past Wednesday evening, the Shoresh Society met for the first of three programs geared toward grandparents.  The Shoresh Society is our new giving society for GSDS grandparents who contribute $180/year. For members, these lectures are complementary – and they also receive a quarterly newsletter specifically focused on what’s been happening in our school, along with personalized pictures of their grandchildren. This week’s discussion focused on grandparenting in the 21st century and was led by local psychotherapist Carol Paull.  Upcoming events include “The Most Amazing Beloved and Wonderful Pesach Haggadah: Stuff You Never Learned in Hebrew School”, led by Rabbi Stephen Grundfast on March 17 and a multi-generational program, “L’Hol Eesh Yesh Shem: What’s in a Name”, on Sunday, April 26.  We welcome more grandparents to join the Shoresh Society for $180.00 or attend a single event for $18.00.  You can register at http// or by contacting Ben at

On Friday morning our Kofim and Dagim classes celebrated Tu B’shvat with their annual seder.  Students sang songs, recited prayer, and planted herbs with their parents. It was a wonderful illustration of what they have been learning in class.  Our staff did another amazing job preparing our three year olds for this program.

Purim is just around the corner. The Annual SPA Mishloach Manot fundraiser is here!  On Tuesday, you should have received an email explaining how to participate (if not, please let Ben know by emailing  We hope that you’ll take advantage of this great program and enhance your Purim celebrations by sharing Mishloach Manot with your friends!  Our students also participated in a Purim art contest, and Sammy Lazzaro, Lola Seaman and Jonah Kiwi were selected to have their drawings on our Purim cards this year.  You can purchase packs of 10 cards for $36 in the office to mail yourself, or, you can place an order through the Happy Purim website to have them mailed out through the school.

Please join me in welcoming Alex Mintz, our new P.E. teacher! We are thrilled she has joined us! Alex grew up in Beachwood, and majored in Sports Management at John Carroll. The students are so excited to have her on board.
