Week in Review – August 23, 2019The 2019-2020 school year is off to an amazing start! Students returned to school with great enthusiasm and our staff was just as enthusiastic to greet them and begin their year of learning. There was music, smiles, new t-shirts, stories about summer vacations, greeting new students and high fives! I hope you all have access to the Gross Schechter Facebook and instagram pages so you can enjoy the many pictures that were taken on opening day.
On Wednesday morning, the entire school welcomed our new kindergarten class with the Annual Kindergarten Ceremony. This is always an emotional ceremony that brings the entire school community together. Our parents recited She’he’che’yanu for the Class of 2028 and then joined in the singing of Hinei Matov. Our Kindergarten Ceremony would not be complete without the Staff Parody which has become a wonderful tradition. Sheri Gross always develops a very creative parody in which our entire staff participates. It is one of our “Favorite Things” to do!
As you may have noticed, Officer Jim returned to Gross Schechter on Thursday morning. We all missed him – he has just returned from his honeymoon!
Today, each of our classes celebrated the arrival of Shabbat with challah, grape juice, singing and prayer. Our middle school students participated in our Friday Camp Style Tefillah service with gusto. You could hear the singing throughout the school. Thanks to Rabbi Ben and Sheri Gross for the musical accompaniment.
A special meeting has been scheduled for all middle school students interested in playing soccer this fall. On Monday afternoon at 3:45pm, there will be an opportunity to learn about the season and meet the new soccer coach. We encourage parents to attend along with their child(ren).
The RBO is coming, the RBO is coming! We are getting geared up for the Annual Totally Kosher Rib Burn-Off on Monday, September 2 from 12-4 pm. This incredible Schechter event is always the place to be on Labor Day and this year’s event promises to be better than ever. We still can use volunteers to assist with this community wide event. There is lots to do to accomodate 3,000 of our closest friends. Please click here to volunteer.
There is also a 50/50 raffle! You can buy tickets here. Next week we will be selling food and game tickets during pickup and dropoff. Don’t miss your chance to take advantage of the Schechter family discount!!
