Dear Families:

This has been quite an exciting week at Gross Schechter. We collectively lost sleep staying up late cheering on the Cleveland Indians as they desperately tried to end a 48 year World Series Championship drought. Some of our students had the opportunity to attend a game or two, and the experience of the seventh game excitement will last a lifetime. Somehow all that stress did not stop the enthusiasm for learning at school.

Our third graders discovered America this week. Each student chose a state to study and groups of students developed skits about their specific state. The performance was Friday morning. They all presented fun facts and humorous commercials about the state they studied. Students also had a suitcase filled with items that represented the state’s identity. It was a great morning of presentations, performances and learning.

Our Middle School students are holding their own voter registration campaign in school. They are meeting with lower school classes and talking to students about the importance of voting and registering them to vote. This is all in preparation for Schechter’s mock election to be held on Tuesday. On Monday, Middle School students will “campaign” as Presidential Candidates during the lunch periods and on Tuesday morning at 9:15 am we will have an Election Day celebration in the Merkaz. What a great way to be have our students participate in the democratic process.

Sheri Gross just completed producing a video depicting Schechter’s love of Shabbat. Students, staff and even Officer Jim participated in this wonderful musical video called, “Let’s Keep Shabbat”. Watch for it coming to our website soon!

Finally, a reminder that Tuesday is election day. We are asking all students to wear red, white and blue to celebrate this very important process. We invite all parents to come and observe how Schechter supports the right to vote on Tuesday morning at 9:15 am or when our own election results are announced with a special school assembly at 2:55 pm.

Reminder…Friday, November 11 is a Staff In-service Day and there is no school for students. You should have also received via email our conference sign up. If you have not signed up yet, please do so at http://tinyurl.com/schechterconferences2016.

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather this weekend and Shabbat Shalom.

DON’T FORGET TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK 1 HOUR THIS WEEKEND. EARLY FRIDAY DISMISSAL (2:30 PM) BEGINS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18.

Shabbat Shalom,
