We had a fantastic return from Thanksgiving break.  Our Judaic staff participated in the second round of the Standards and Benchmarks professional development program.  For two days the group met with our consultant from JTS and Rabbi Berger to work on curriculum development.  They are diligently coordinating curriculum grades K-8.  While the Judaic staff was working, we sponsored two STEM days for our lower school students.  Did you hear about planning and creating a roller coaster?  Did your son or daughter talk about designing a home or building the Mayflower, or mixing up some “oobleck”?  We created cross grade groups that participated in a variety of hands on activities focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) study.  Our teachers did an amazing job developing project based lessons about solids and liquids, momentum and speed, density, engineering and buoyancy.  It was a fantastic experience for our students that was filled with discovery, creativity, collaboration and communication.

On Wednesday morning, our eighth grade students accompanied the first graders to the Art Museum.  What a nice opportunity for our youngest students and our oldest students to travel and study together.  They also ate lunch as a group upon their return and recited Birkot together as well.

On Friday morning our middle school students led Tefillah with their buddies in a camp style service.  Sheri Gross, Rabbi Ben and Rabbi Berger led the group.  It was a wonderful service filled with music and singing.  Our middle school students were excellent role models for their buddies.  What a way to build community!

Because of the high demand for our ECC program, we are beginning the re-enrollment process for students entering our 18 months through pre-K programs for the 2018-2019 school year on Monday, December 4, 2017.  We want to give our current families an opportunity to register before we open the enrollment process to new families.  Each day we receive new inquiries for the upcoming school year.  Gross Schechter offers a very comprehensive program for our youngest students and the support of the program has been very positive.  In order to make sure that we accommodate our current families, we are opening re-enrollment early so we can plan accordingly for the 2018-2019 school year.  We are very excited about the upcoming school year and the positive interest in our ECC programs.

Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend and Shabbat Shalom.
